Temporary Auto Pilot (TAP).

Volkswagen has taken the automobile industry a step up with its new technology called Temporary Auto Pilot (TAP). For all those of us who think that we could use our hands for doing other things while driving the vehicle, have a reason to rejoice. This technology would allow the driver to get around the town while keeping his/ her hands free. Imagine you could utilise the time you to the fullest without fearing accidents now. Isn’t it great?
But even though the technology would allow hands free driving, you would have to keep a tab on the system. This is the first attempt by the company which allows semi automatic driving but in near future drivers would be able to enjoy automatic driving. With a little monitoring, you could have a relaxing drive while your Volkswagen moves at a speed of 130km/hr.
TAP TECHNOLOGY

TAP is a smart system which controls the speed of vehicle while making sure that there is safe distance with other vehicles. If this did not amuse you enough, the wonder car by Volkswagen would also make sure that vehicle maintains central position as per lane markings, drops speed before any bends and the best part is the driver could deactivate the system if need be. Wondering how such a technology works? TAP works with the help of sensor platform that consists of camera, radar, ultrasonic sensors supported by electronic horizon and laser scanner.
TAP is the perfect rescuer in the situations like traffic jams and with the routes that are speed limited. Volkswagen has tried to turn many of our dreams into reality but the head of the group advises the drivers to be vigilant. The technology is still semi automatic and the driver is supposed to monitor the TAP constantly to avoid any types of mis-happenings.

The Fastest Super Computer: Fujitsu K computer

K, built by Fujitsu and located at the Riken Advanced Institute for Computational Science in Kobe, Japan, represents a giant leap forward in computing speed. This computer is three times faster than its Chinese rival that previously held the top position, a New York Times report said.

"It's a very impressive machine. It's a lot more powerful than the other computers," the Times report quoted Jack Dongarra, a professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville who keeps the official rankings of computer performance, as saying.
K pushed back the previous number one, Tianhe-1A supercomputer, at the National Supercomputing Centre in Tianjin, China, to second place. Tianhe-1A was the first Chinese computer to be ranked on top.
The latest ranking of the top 500 computers released Monday, is determined by running a standard mathematical equation. The winning computer was able to make 8.2 quadrillion calculations per second, or 8.2 petaflops per second, the report said.
K is made up of 672 cabinets filled with system boards. Although considered energy-efficient, it still uses enough electricity to power nearly 10,000 homes at a cost of around $10 million annually, Dongarra said.
The fastest computer in the United States, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory was placed third.
In the top 10 list, US computers bagged five places. All of them are in government research facilities, the report said.
Supercomputers are used for earthquake simulations, climate modelling, nuclear research and weapons development and testing. Businesses also use the machines for oil exploration and rapid stock trading.

MICROSOFT SURFACE

MICROSOFT SURFACE
Microsoft Surface (codename Milan) is a multi-touch product that responds to natural hand gestures and real-world objects, helping people interact with digital content in a simple and intuitive way. Leave the mouse and keyboard behind. Surface lets you grab digital content with your hands and move information with simple gestures and touches.
It has a 360-degree user interface, a 30-inch reflective surface with a XGA DLP projector underneath the surface which projects an image onto its underside, while five cameras in the machine's housing record reflections of infrared light from objects and human fingertips on the surface. The surface is capable of object recognition, object/finger orientation recognition and tracking, and is multi-touch and is multi-user. Users can interact with the machine by touching or dragging their fingertips and objects such as paintbrushes across the screen, or by placing and moving placed objects. This paradigm of interaction with computers is known as a natural user interface (NUI).
Features:

1- Direct interaction refers to the user's ability to simply reach out and touch the interface of an application in order to interact with it, without the need for a mouse or keyboard. Multi-touch contact refers to the ability to have multiple contact points with an interface, unlike with a mouse, where there is only one cursor.

2- The technology allows non-digital objects to be used as input devices. In one example, a normal paint brush was used to create a digital painting in the software.

3- A unique feature that comes preinstalled with Surface is the pond effect "Attract" application. Simply, it is a "picture" of water with leaves and rocks within it (a lot like a screen saver used in Windows XP or Vista). By touching the screen, users can create ripples in the water, much like a real stream. Additionally, the pressure of touch alters the size of the ripple created, and objects placed into the water create a barrier that ripples bounce off, just as they would in real life.
I think this is going to be the most inventive part of the direction in future and there must be the great use of media.
